la the swimming tournament at Ballarat the Australasian 100yds championship resulted in. a win for R. Cavill, Oraigr being second, and Champion (of New Zealand) third, Cavill led throughout. Craig beat Champion by a foot. The time was given as l.min 2sec, but it could not be accepted as the timekeepers had to take it from the moment the competitors entered the water.

In order to afford Cavill an opportunity of boating Lane's Australasian fresh-water record, an impromptu race was arranged subsequently. Though firing towards the finish, Cavill succeeded, the time given officially being Imin 3 l-ssec.

Champion swam second to Tucker in the Ballarat Handicap. Dunn (of Ballarat) won the Plunging Championship of Australia.
