PREPARING FOR THE CQRONA-
TION
LONDON, January 29
King Edward was proclaimed with the usual titles at Pretoria as “ Supreme Lord of the Transvaal.” Hearty cheers were given after the reading of the proclamation. Mr Harold Parsons, a West Australian M.L.C., in a letter to “The Times,” advocates the recognition in the King's titles of the " Kingdoms of Canada and Australia” to the dignity of kingdoms in the Imperial system. LONDON, January 30. The Kaiser has appointed the King Chief of the First Imperial Dragoons, a position formerly held by the late Queen. The King, at Osborne, wit*; much ceremony invested the Crown Prince of Prussia with the Order of the Garter. LONDON, January 31. The Royal Colonial Institute and the British Empire League have sent addresses, condoling with the King in tiio death of the late Queen. LONDON, February' 1. The King has privately intimated that the change in the Crown will not affect the late Queen’s old friends and dependents, or the ladies and gentlemen of straitened means who are occupying apartments by Royal favour, LONDON, February, 2. Messrs Hooper and Company, Limited, coachbuilders, are preparing the coronation carriage. This indicates a probable early coronation. MELBOURNE, January 31. The Lieutenant-Governor (Sir John Madden) proclaimed the King tp-day from the steps of Parliament House. SYDNEY, January,3l. The King’s message to the navy was read to the officers and men of ;\be Australian squadron by Rear-Admiral Beaumont. SYDNEY, February '4. The Earl of Hopetoun, on behalf if himself and the Commonwealth Ministers, has cabled to Mr Chamberlain heartfelt congratulations on the accession of the King, adding that in no part of his dominions is loyalty more deeply rotated than in the Commonwealth, whose people regarded the Bang with that affection and devotion which are now the subject of such spontaneous expression throughout the Empire. LONDON, February 4. The Duke of Cornwall is progressing towards convalescence.
