Cockroaches may be exterminated by scattering . powdered borax in their haunts.
Wicker chairs, when soiled, should be scrubbed with strong brine. Hot water cans and jugs will last
much longer if. instead of being hung up in the usual way, they are turned upside down directly they are emptied. It
is the' few'drops at the bottom which cause them to rust xuto holes. To clean white woollen articles rub them in hot flour till . clean. Then shake them thoroughly till quite free from flour. The rubbing is a slow process. but, if persevered in, it really cleans most satisfactorily. Ink stains in wood may be removed by scouring with sand wetted with ammonia and water. Rinse with strong soda water. .
Oak Wainscot. —When it is necessary to wash oak wainscot, use warm water only and a sponge. Afterwards polish with a brush, as you would, mahogany. The unpleasant smell of a - waterproof cloak may be banished by wrapping it in fresh hay.
