SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
The number of letters despatched from New Zealand by the San Francisco mail which left Auckland on the 21st January. 1901, was 55,932, as against 26,662 sent by the previous mail in December, 1900, or an increase of 109 per cent. A return prepared by the Post and Telegraph Department gives details for thei different districts. Auckland seint 14,896‘ betters, *as. against 7206 in December; Christchurch, 11,466, as against 5422 in January, 1900; Dunedin, 5235, as against 2645 in December; and Wellington 18,600, as against 8250 in December.
