RIFLE SHOOTING.
SYDNEY, January 13. At the Commonwealth Prize Meeting the Lord Roberts Match, 700 and 809" yards, seven shots, was won by Kell, of Bathurst, with a soore of 67. J. Wilson (Woodvilie) won the eighth prize, of £6, with 62. T. Robinson and Corporal Winslade each take £2. The Victorian match, 600yds, ten shots, was won by Ross (.Victoria), with 34. A. Ballinger (Wellington) was third (£10), with 32. Gatland (£2) and Evans (£1) were the other New Zealand prize winners. In the New South Wales match, 700yds, ten shots. Parsons, Winslade, McCarthy and Ballinger take £1 each. In the Empire match, Queensland (593), was first, Bathurst (582) second, Tasmania (573) third, Bendigo and New South Wales (each 552) fourth. The New Zealand No. 2 team (551) was fifth, taking £24. A “fish tail” wind was blowing during the match. The New Zealand No. 1 team went all to pieces on the first range, Winslade losing four shots, and MacGregor six shots through lack of time. The second team shot very well at the three ranges (700, 800 and 900 yards). The following are the second team’s scores : —Loveday 79, Cox 76, Ingpen 73, Wilson (Feilding) 70, McHattie 66, Gatland 63, King and Steadman 62 THE AGGREGATE PRIZE. The compiling of the scores in the Commonwealth Aggregate Match was * not completed till a late hour. Sergt. Hawker, of Victoria, wjio scored consistently in all the matches, was first with 378 points, and takes the first prize of £SO. Howitt, of Adelaide, is second with 375, winning £4O. Whitehead, of Victoria, with 374, wins the third prize of £3O.
Of the New Zealand competitors, Winslade w T as thirteenth with 363, and wins £5; Robinson (Christchurch), 352. thirty-first, and J. G. Wilson (Woodville), 350. v thirty-fifth, win £4 each.
