GISBORNE, January 30. The results of the play at the North Island Bowling Association’s tournament to-day are: —Whataupoko, 15. v. Ponsonby 24; Auckland, 30, v. Palmerston, 16; NsU pier, 19, v. Masterton, 12; Kaiti, 27, v. Mount Eden, 17; Wellington 20, v. Hastings, 13; Bluff Hill, 22, v. Victoria, 19, Gisborne, 32, v. Newmarket, 8. Wellington beat Napier by 21 to 13, Palmerston North beat Victoria by 21 to 20, Auckland beat Masterton by 29 to 15, Gisborne beat Ponsonby by 30 to 10, Bluff Hill beat Newmarket by 24 to 21, Hastings beat Mount Eden by 26 to i 7, Whataupoko beat Kaiti by 18 to 16. Gisborne won the championship, as matches to be played to-morrow cannot affect the result. This afternoon a match was played between local teams and visitors, eleven rinks a. side, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 30 points. It was not the first time some of them had ' : “thrown a bowl,” and the beginners were kindly instructed by gentleman players. From the zeal displayed in the game it is probable the ladies of Thorndon will become expert howlers, in Australia, especially in Melbourne, quite a number cf ladies have become skilful at the game.
