The late Mr George Beaven, of Wanganui, whose remains were interred on Saturday afternoon, has since early in the sixties talEen the liveliest interest in the welfare and advancement of Wanganui. In the early days he was an active member of the Town Board, of which he was chairman, and was responsible for many inaugural works in the Borough. He was elected a member of the Town Board in 1864, was appointed chairman in 1868, and continued in office till 1870, thus having served six years. He was also an active Volunteer, and was a lieutenant in the New Zealand Militia.
