The Manawatu Farmers' Dairy Union is extending its butter factory in Waring Taylor street at a cost of £2500, and proposes putting in £ISOO worth of additional machinery. It has found, however, that the form of a spray and condenser station which it is" proposed to erect contravenes a by-law of the City Council, and Messrs W. C. Chat-field and Phil Nathan waited on the Public Woiks Committee of that body last night in regard thereto. They pointed out that if the by-law were insisted upon the work would be unnecessarily blocked, and great injury . would be inflicted oh the Farmers' Union.' The Mayor said the City Engineer was of opinion that ho harm could be done by erecting the building in the manner proposed, but the bylaw stood in the, way. It was decided to refer the matter to the By-laws Committee with power to act. Talleyrand owed his - success in life, to no small extent, to the uniform courtesy with, which he treated everyone.;
