' SOUND POSITION. EXTENSION OF RAILWAY SYSTEMS. .BRISBANE, Tuesday. In the Legislative Asembly to-day the Treasurer (Mr Philp) delivered his Financial Statement. The revenue for the past year was shown to be £4,184,000,. being £IIOO,OOO in excess of the estimate, while the expenditure amounted to £-1,084.000. The surplus of £l5O, will be handed to the trustees of the Public Debt; Reduction Fund. For the current year the Treasurer estimates tlie revenue at £4,388,000, and the expenditure at £4.vo c'oo. In view of the hopeful outlook of the colony and the soundness of its finances, the Government feels justified in prudently extending the' rail way systems, and authority will be sought to raise a loan for that purpose."
