MUNICIPALITIES AND TUBERCULOSIS.
r i he clauses relating to tuberculosis and the milk supply, which will ho substituted for these originally proposed by the Corporations of Blackpool, Beetle, Darwen, Derby, Leeds, Manchester, Salford and Stockport, wore settled in April. Prepared by the Local Government Board and the Board of Agriculture, they were accepted by tire council of the Central Chamber of Agriculture, with certain exceptions, the chief of which was that the clauses ought not to apply to cows other than those affected with tuberculosis of the udder. At the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of tlie Central
Chamber of Agriculture hold on tlie 18th Api il it was decided to withdraw opposition to tho Bills, provided that the phrase objected to —namely, “or exhibiting clinical symptoms of tuberculosis’'—were omitted, thus ’uniting the application of tho clauses to caws affected with tuberculosis of the udder. One of the proposed clauses provides for the inspection of dairies within a
borough by the medical officer of health, accompanied by a veterinary surgeon, whose report, with that of the medical officer, must bo furnished to the corporation; and it empowers a corporation, in cases where it is believed that the milk is likely to cause tuberculosis in persons in the borough, to suspend the milk supply of any particular dairyman on his failure to show cause to the contrary. The like provisions, extend to dairies outsicU a borough, subject to the order of a justice having jurisdiction in the place where the dairy is situated authorising inspection.
