At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce held to-day, when the question of an alternative telegraph line, via Awakino, to Waitara was again brought up, it was stated that assurances had been given from the Wellington authorities that a sum would be placed on tho .Estimates for the work next session.

At 4 o'clock this morning the San Francisco liner Alameda, with mails dated London, 15th May, and San Franci&co, 27th May, arrived from Honolulu—one day ahead oi: time-table date. Greymouth, June 19. Last week 62,299 ft of timber and 3075 sleepers were exported. Westport, June 19. The coal export for week ended to-day was 10,012 tons 13cwt, of which the Westport Coal Company exported 9053 tons, and the Cardiff Company 959 tons 13cwt. This is by far the largest weekly output from these mines, thus establishing a record. Greymouth, June 20. Ihe coal exnortfor the week was 3400 tons.
