GOLF.
The monthly competition of the Wellington Golf Club for the silver cleek was held on the Miramar links on Saturday, and resulted in a tie between Messrs G. Todd and W. Higginson, with the fine score of 78 each. The following' are the scores :
Auckland, May 18. In the first round of the Golf Championship this morning the results were as follows : Duncan beat Kyd, Gillies beat Burnes, Sauiders beat Flint, Carr beat Turner, Harold beat Winslow. In the second round Gore beat Colbeck, Pryde beat Carr, Harold beat Saunders, Gillies beat Duncan. The last-mentioned was the most exciting contest of the day, the contestants being regarded as the best players in the tournament. It is thought on the result that Gillies will win the Championship.
