A number of settlers waited on the Kiwitea County Council on Saturday in reference to the proposed delay in the erection of the Otara bridge. It was decided that the Government be asked to increase the subsidy for the Otara bridge in view of the proposed increased cost and necessity for a suspension bridge in place of a cylinder bridge, and that the member for the district, Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, be asked to co-operate in obtaining the same. . . The Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association has aaked Mr M. Murphy to recommend to the Conference at Brisbane that the case for the transit of apples and pears should be 28in x Win x 7in.
