WELLINGTON'S FIRE SERVICE.
The Fire Brigade Committee of the Council reported last week that they had considered Captain Komsley's report upon the question of providing' improved accommodation at Thorndon and Newtown. The captain recommended the erection of a station at Tinakori road, to cost £295, or, with bell tower, _2320; and a station at Russell terrace, to cost JB3G2, or, with bell tower, £392. The committee were unable to recommend that so large an amount should be expended at present, and they appointed a sub-committee to visit the localities with a view to making some other recommendations. They had received the report of that committee, and now recommended that the hose-reel station at Donald McLean street be repaired and painted, and that; an offer be made to hire at a small rental tho luad on which the hose-reel station at Tinakori load now stands. Also, if such offer was accepted, that the station be also painted and repaired. The commiteeo wca-e of opinion that if this was done it would not hi-' necessary to incur any further expenditure at present. They estimated that the painting, <fca, and repairs.ccuid be carried out for about .£'_s. The report was adopted.
