RICCARTON NOTES.
[By The Aristocratic Tout.]
Eiccarton now bears quite a deserted appearance, owing to the departure of visiting trainers and horses, a large number going away during the week, both North and South.
Mr C. P. Dalgety has disposed of Taipari, who won the Ladies' Purse at the recent C.J.C. Meeting. He has gone into Free Holmes' stable.
Bizarre is to be treated to a spell and will probably be in coinmision again about Easter time.
Bold, who was bought out of the Selling two-year-old race at the meeting by Messrs Stephenson and Hazlett, was secured by Mr J. B. Eeid a few minutes afterwards at an advance of £lO. He has gone into H. Lunn's stable to be prepared for future engagements.
Gillie, who pulled up very lama after the Curragh Steeplechase, is to be blistered and turned out for a long spell. He will not race again till National time. Salvo, in the same stable, who went wroug previous to the Cup meeting, will be treated the same.
Two of Sir Geo. Clifford's two-year-olds. Blandyke and Ocean us are to be shortly added to the list and turned out on their owner's station.
Cutts left for Duncdin on Thursday, taking down Seashell and the Eetina colt, who has been named Choria. It. Mason left on Friday with Mr G. G. Stead's team, consisting of Epaulet, Multiform and Senior Wrangler. The latter raced unsuccessfully in tlie Spring Nursery Handicap at Eiccarton. He is a very nice goer, and should score a win soon as he did not look properly strung up here.
The C.J.C. stewards are to be commended for the action they took re the disqualification of Cannonshot and Culverine, owing to their running in the Pacing Club Handicap on the second day of the Geraldine Meeting. A peculiar feature of the case is that, owing to Cannonshot's disqualification, the stake in the Eiccarton Welter Handicap goes to Arquebus (who had run unplaced with the minimum weight in one of the minor races at Geraldine). The two jockeys who were concerned must consider themselvc? lucky getting off with a caution.
W. Brown, the well-known horseman, has gone to Dunedin to ride Mr S. Mercer's horses in their engagements daring the meeting.
Free Holmes leaves for the West Coast shortly with Clarence and Taipari.
Mr V. Harris has disposed of that disappointing horse, Eangiatea, to Mr Gerkins, the price being 20 guineas. Ho cost his late owner a heap of money, as he always failed when well-backed, notably at the Ohoka Meeting.
Clmrlio Stratford has taken Speculator in baud, and will probably take him to the West Coast for the Christmas meetings.
The Ghristchurch Racing Club intend holding a meeting at New Brighton on December 10, and they should be rewarded with liberal nominations, as the gathering is a popular one with owners and trainers.
Blood stock is at a very low value here at present. At the sale of the late Dr Prims' horses prices ruled very low. Mr S. Brown, the popular Ashburton sportsman, was the principal buyer. Mr Mason, the lucky owner of Te Kooti, bought Rustic (Apremont—Miss Russley) and he should prove a good investment.
