WESLEYAN SYNOD.
The Wesleyan Methodist Church Synod for the Wellington district was opened on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. There were present —The Bevs W. Bautnber (chairman of the district), W. Bowse, J. S. Smalley, F.R.G.S J. H. Gray, J. J. Pendray, J. Ward' j' Hosking, D.D., J. Blight, J. Wrigley, L.' j" Kyan, W. Dawson, J. "W. Griffin, A. B.' Chappell. The Bevs W. Kirk and S. J. Garlick arrived during the morning session The Bev J. Ward was olected°secretary and the Bev J. Blight, assistant-secretary. ' ' The hours of session wore fixed as follows - —Morning, 10 to 12.30 ; afternoon, 2.30 to 5 - evening, 7.30 to 9, with the option of extendi ing.
The Bev W. H. Bock (Napier) was granted leave of absence on account of illness and the secretary was instructed to forward to him the Synod's expression of sympathy. The remainder of the morning's sitting' was devoted to routine business, and the Synod rose at 12.30.
The Synod re-assembled at half-past two the proceedings being opened by sincine-' followed by prayer by Rev. W. Kirk.
The cases of probationers in the ministry partiady dealt with in the morning session again camo up for consideration. Beports of trial sermons, lists of books read during the year, and accounts of circuit work having been submitted and discussed, the Bevs Ryan, Dawson, Griffin and Chappell were recommended to be passed in their respective years, subject to their written examinations proving satisfactory. In addition to submitting to the above tests, Mr Byan was orally examined on theological topics before the meeting, and he was recommended to Conference for ordination,
