There was a full muster of tho Wellington College Cadets, under the charge of Captain Wood and Lieutenant McKenzie, on parade on Sunday morning for divine service, and. headed by the Garrison Band, they attracted much attention along tho route to St. Peter's. The fine marching of tho lads came in for general remark both to and from church. A lady pas.-anger by the Wainui last week lost a valuable gold watch and chain after disembarking trom the steamer. The watch and chain were placed in a closed handbag justbefore leaviug the vessel, and alter the lady had gone a short distance trom the wharf it was discovered that tlie bag was open and tho jewellery missing. It is thought that one of the numerous pickpockets who are at present in tho city took advantage of the large crowd on the quay to appropriate the missing articles. Seven boxes of gold, valued at £23,000, came up from the West Coast by tho Wainui last night, consigned to the National Bank and the Bank of New Zealand. While a resident of Majoribank street, Mrs Murphy, was awaiting the arrival of the steamer Wainui at the wharf last night she slipped and fractured her ankle.
