HARBOUR BOARD.

The Wellington Harbour Board met last week. Present—Messrs T. J. W. Gale (chairman), W. Booth, F. Bradey, J. Jack, J. H. Heaton, J. Hutcbeson and F. H. Fraser. Mr Beauchamp was granted leave of absence from the meeting. Accounts were reported as follows : Bankbooks —Current account,debit balance, .£3074 Os 6d ; imprest wages account, credit balance, .£225; on fixed deposit, £19,000. Payments For accounts and wages, £24-24 7s 3d ; for progress and final on contracts, £304 19s; for salaries for November, .£424 5s 9d: total, .£3153 12s. The accounts were passed for payment.

The Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended: —That .£5 per annum be

paid to the City Council for the watering of the roadway of Waterloo quay; that consent be given to the "Wellington Amateur Swimming Club to hold aquatic sports at th 3 Queen's Wharf on a day to be fixed in January, that the committee are of opinion that Anniversary Day, 22nd January, being one of the Board's holidays, would be the most suitable date ; also, that the question of the imposition of liquidated damages for the non-completion within the contract time by Messrs W. Cable and Co. of their contract for woolpresses be left to the engineer to decide. Recommendations agreed to. A draft of amended by-laws, submitted to the Board, was approved. The main alterations are :—Reduction of charges on hemp, storage of timber, stoppage of steam sirens blowing in the harbour, and ordaining that drivers of all vehicles shall stop at the toll clerk's office.
