SCALE PEST.
SOME TIMELY ADVICE. Mr Mayo, Government Pomologist for the Wellington district, lias kindly forwarded us the following : As now is the proper time to dress apple trees that are infested with scale pest which escaped the Winter Dressing No. 1 (Leaflet No. 10, Gardeners), kindly allow me co draw your readers’ attention to the tenderness of the young scale now on the move creeping out from under the old hard shells, and which appear to the naked eye like whiteish dots. Also to point out the best remedies for this season of the year, which are the Sulphide of Soda and the Kerosene Emulsion washes, made as follows :—Kerosene Emulsion Water, 1 gal ; soap, .jib, boiled until dissolved, poured, into 2gals of kerosene and well churned, when cold use 1 part to 12 parts water. Sulphide of Soda —Dissolve 301bs soft soap in GOgals water, boil 31bs concentrated lye with Gibs of sulphur in 2gals of water till thoroughly dissolved. • Then mix the whole and boil for half an ' hour, add SOgals water and use warm,
