Lambton quay has had a great improvement made to its appearance and attractiveness by the just-completed alterations made by Mr Thos. Pringle. An electric light display of the practically new shop was held last night, when one and all expressed delight at the skilful manner in -which the space has been manipulated, at the large and varied assortment of novelties and stock shown, and we, with the public, compliment Mr and Mrs Pringle on their enterprise, and wish them every success in the festivo season for which they have so amply provided. The fortnightly meeting of the Wellington Benevolent Institution Trustees was held on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev H. Van Staveren presiding. The other Trustees present were Messrs J. Collins, T. W. McKenzie, S. Lancaster, F. Bradoy. The secretary roported the result of two cases that had been heard at the Magistrate’s Court, and they were considered satisfactory. A young married woman, whose husband is in Auckland, applied for a passage to that city, which was granted. An old man was admitted to the Home, and several deserving cases were relieved.

The children’s festival was very successful last Tuesday in the Courtenay placo Congregational Church in connection with the Sunday School anniversary. After thorough and plentiful refreshment at table, at which a largo number of children, parents and friends sat down, an adjournment to the churoh took place, where, with the pastor (the Rev B. T. Hallowos) in the chair, the, reports of the secretary-superintendent (My W. D. Haggett) and the treasurer (Mr Y. Holdsworth), both of a satisfactory and encouraging nature, were read. Addresses wor© given by the Revs J. K. Elliott, C. Daflaston and J. R. Glasson. Then the winners of a competition repeatod thoir “ pieces”—Grace Murrell recited chapter 55 of Isaiah, Levi Lowe “ ’l’he Rock of Ages,” and Lizzie Callow the books of the Bible, and finally the presentation of prizes to the leading boy 3 and girls in the respective classes created no little excitement and pleasure, and a pleasant gathering dissolved in thanks tc all who had helped to its successful issue.
