“THE NATIONAL ASS. UNDER THE WHIP.”

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is laughable to see the way in which the Tory candidates are driven into the corner. They don’t know what to do. They go about the country contradicting each other till even Satan, their father, does not know what to think of the business. I wonder if it is possible for a Tory to speak the truth ? It seems doubtful. The fact is that the National Ass. is under the whip, and is suffering great pain, so much so that it is kicking all round friend and foe alike, while its brays are heartrending. Poor National Ass. ! The name stinks in the nostrils of the people. Let us hope that after the elections we will hear of it no more. —I am, Ac., Friend of the Peorle. Wellington, ] 2th November, 1896.
