VOLUNTEERS.
WELLINGTON OITY RIFLES.
Last Monday the members of the "Wellington City Rifles gavo their annual "social" at Thomas' Hall, and they are to be congratulated upon its success. Nearly 300 pcoplo were present. Among thoso who attended were Major Collins, Captain Duthie, Lieutenant Muir, Lieutenant Hume, Lieutenant McKenzie. Tho decorations of the halt had been most tastefully carried out by members of tho corps, tho many bright-coloured Hags giving it a very pleasing effect. Supper, provided by the members of the corps, was laid out in the largo supper room above. With a capital floor and tho excellent music of Mr Fischer's band, tho members and their friends spent a thoroughly enjoyable night. Corporals Robinson and Halpin and Private Wickens acted as M's.C. Colour-Sergeant Davis was a most energetic secretary of the committee. Tho shooting prizes, which formed a most handsome display on tho stage, were presented during tho evening by Miss Duthie as follow-.—• Aggregate Prizes.— A class Gold badge, trophy and £2 10s, Volunteer Arthur Guise, 1: trophy, M 10s, Corporal R. Guise ; company prize, £'■), Privato Hawthorne: morning trophy, .£l, Privato Hawthorne ; pair binoculars, Privato Guise; pair binoculars, Sergeant Jackson. 13 class-Trophy, £2, Private Hawthorne; company prize, £2, Privato 13. Halpin; morning trophy, £1 10s, I'rivato Puuckenburgh ; binoculars (pair each), Privates Doyle, Jenkins and Halpin. Teams Match—Major Collins' trophy, won by Privato A. Guise's team; Captain Duthio's trophy, won by Colour-Sergeant Davis' team.
Marksmen's Badges.—Private Williason, cross rifles and three stars; ColourSergeant Davis, Sergeant Jackson, Corporal Harris, Corporal Rankin, Privates Dixon, Doyle, Faber, Frandi, Halpin, Madden and Turner, cross rifles and two stars each.
Ammunition Prizes.— Two thousand one hundred rounds, valued at £lO, distributed in ammunition prizes.
