HOSTILITIES IN CRETE.

London, May 27. News has been received that sanguinary conflicts havo taken place in the streets of Canea and Rotimo, in Crete. Tlie cavasses of tho Russian, French and Greek Consulates have been lrillled. Athens, May 28. The Cretans have appealed to Greece for protection. Business in Canea is stopped, and tho Consulates are crowded with refugees.

Some of the warships have arrived with food.

A body of six thousand insurgents is besieging the Turkish garrison at Vamos, with whom food is scarce.

Russia and Austria are also sending warships. Athens, May 20. The Government has notified the Powers that it will not bo responsible for the massacre in Crete.

In attempting to relieve Vamos a force of 2500 Turkish troops were defeated.

Acting in accord with tho Sultan, the Powers "have instructed tho Consuls in Crete to negotiate with tho insurgents to secure the liberation of the Vamos garrison, provided that the Turks besieged at Kalwas are liberated. The Porte is sending l(i battalions to Crete to assist in restoring order.
