THE EVIL OF IMPROPER SHOEING.
At the meeting of the Board of Education last week Mr J. Robertson proposed tho motion of which ho hart given notice in regard to tho improper shoeing of horses, an abuso dealt with recently by tho New Zealand Times. Tho motion was "That tho Technical School undertake tho examination of candidates and granting of certificates of proficiency in horse-shooing." Mr Robertson said that on tho grounds of humanity the Technical School should undertake the work, especially as there was no accredited body in tho Colony to issuo certificates. He suggested that tho Government bo asked to allow tho Veterinary Surgeon to undertake the examination;;. Ho thought that farriers should bo able to show that they possessed an elementary knowledge, at least, of the anatomy of the horse's log. The poorest peoplo were often tho largest users of horses, and a lamed animal was a serious loss to them. Tho expense attending tho examination would he borne by the candidates. Mr J. Young seconded the motion, which was referred to the Technical School Committee.
