There is still a good demand for land in the Wairarapa, and Mr 11. If. Wolters reports tho salo of the Cooper estate, in the Wainuioru district, to Mr Arthur It. Bunny, of Masterton. Tho area comprises some 6500 acres, and tho price is £13,000. Through the same agency tho Carterton town house in the Strang’s ostato, with 30 acres of land attached, has boon sold to Mr J, S. Hudson, of Carterton, saddler. I have not learned tho exact figure, but I beliovo it is over £4O per aero. Tho farmers of Bolvodero aro just now negotiating with tho Dalefiold Dairy Company for tho orection of a branch factory in their district. It will be for the manufacture of both butter and cheese, and will work all tho year round. The estimated cost of tho building and plant is £I2OO. Air J. Baylis3 has offered them a convenient site of one acre of land free of cost. Other eligible sites are offered at a moderate price. Tho Wairarapa Agricultural and Pastoral Society have decided upon the erection of large produce sheds and offices at as estimated cost of £3OO. Those will bo completed in time for the next show. Two new shops and dwellings aro being erected to the order of Mr W. Downard in High street, and Mr W. J. Lindop is having a shop and solicitors’ offices put up in the centre of the town. Mr W. Moriart}', of the “Arcade,” Carterton, is getting plans out for a large store to be built on his section at tho corner of Belvedere road and High street. Several now private houses are also being erected in various parts of the town. Mr L. Nix s new residence at Park vale is nearly completed. The railway authorities have decided to erect a verandah at the Carterton Railway Station without delay. All these improvements will convince your numerous readers that we are “ booming’ along in Carterton at a most satisfactory rate of progress. A subscription list was circulated amongst the committee of the Pastoral and Agricultural Society at Saturday’s mooting and £IOO were subscribed in tho room, and a committee was ■appointed to canvass the district. * Mr Ralph R. Armstrong, who has been years in business here as a saddler, has sold out to Mr H. Catt, of Greytown.

Classes in Latin and French are being formed for pupils in tho higher standards at the Carterton School, and night classes for young men. The question of a water supply for the town will he discussed at tho next meeting of tho Borough Council. Tne Anglicans of Carterton are nothing if not loyal. After the service at St. Mark’s Church ou Sunday night tho National Anthem was sung, that day being the 24th, the anniversary of Her Majesty's birthday.

Your Agricultural Editor has, in tho lust issue of the Mail, been having a shot at our worthy member, Mr W. C. Buchanan.
