MASTERTON.

The Masterton Borough Council, at a meeting last night, decided to ask Mr Hogg, M.11.K., to bring before Parliament a measuro authorising a special rating area for a high pressure water supply. Queen’s Birthday is to be celebrated here on Friday next.

The annual “social” in connection with the Red Star Football Club was held here on Monday. Thero was a fairly largo gathering, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Sergeant McArdle, who left this week on transfer to Nelson, was presented last night at the Borough Council Chambers with an address signed by over 70 of the leading residents "of the town. TJio presentation was made by tho Major. Mrs McArdlo was presented with a purse of sovereigns and a gold watch chain. In referring to tho police, I might mention that an article appearing in tho Lyttelton Times of Saturday last with regard to tho force is framed on an altogether incorrect assumption so far as tho Masterton polico are concerned. The articlo suggests that a Masterton officer of police might bo guilty of “ conspiracy ” in regard to a recent case. Tho “ conspiracy ” arose entirely in the imagination of a local pressman, who was referred toby District Judge Kettle, in dealing with the caso in which the “ conspiracy ” is supposed to have arisen, in strong terms. Mr T. Welch, who was recently married, has been presented by tho Ked Star Football Club with a handsome silver eruetstand.
