PROFESSIONAL SPIELERS.
Our Wellington contemporary, the New Zealand Times, has been letting a little daylight into tho position taken up by members of the spieling fraternity in blocking portions of the public streets, much tn the annoyance of pedestrians in that city, and, we are glad to see, lias awakened tlm police to a proper sense of their duty. For, while we have no wish to see “the fuorce” become too oliicioes, there is a medium in all tilings, and it was quite time this low class of people were made to understand what they owe to any community. A few moro searchlights can be thrown into other dark corners of the metropolis with good effect, and we believe the editor of tho above-mentioned journal is just the man who can and will do it. —Pelorus G uardian.
