THE PROPOSED BATHS.

A recommendation was made to tho Harbour Board last week by the Wharves and Accounts Committee that, at tho request of the City Council, tho Board approve of plans of tho proposed baths to be erected off tho Thermion Esplanade, and forward them to the Marino Department for the approval of tho Governor-in-Council. Some little discussion took place, tho Mayor staling that the city had no right to expend a sum of JL’bOU when ,£IOOO would be sufficient to meet tho requirements at Thermion, in order to gratify tho whim and vanity of one man. He proposed, “That the Harbour Board considers tho expenditure involved in tho carrying out of these plans excessive.” Tho Chairman ruled the motion cut of order. The Mayor said there was a sum of »£ 15,000 available to meet an expenditure of „£3(>,000 which was needed to meet the requirements of the people of tho city. In tho face of that position, was it fair to the burgesses of the city that tho Council should erect a palatial building at a cost of i'JJOo, when a place erected at a cost of .£IOOO would ho sufficient? Tiie recommendation of tho committee was notagmud to, bill it was decided to S‘*nd a lot I-1' to the Town Clerk stating that the Hurbjur Board had no objection to the plans submitted.
