Preparations aro being made by tho Lands and Survey Department for tho disposal of tho Elsthorpe estate, Hawke’s Bay, recently acquired by the Government under the Lands for Settlement Act.
Tho estate has been divided for tho purpose of selection into 28 sections of agricultural land, ranging from eight acres to 635 acres; 21 village sections, ranging from lr. 23p. to 3r. 2tp. ; and six village homestead sections, ranging from two acres to 10 acres. The estate consists of 9161 acres, and lias borne the reputation of being a first-class property of great productiveness. It is situated about 30 miles south of Napier and tho main road from Kaikora Railway Station to tho sea coast at Kairakau runs through the property. It is distant from the railway about four miles, with a good gravel road the whole distance. Tho station is one of the finest in Hawke’s Bay, and capable of a high degree of improvement. Notwithstanding that it is not fully broken up, it wintered last season 20,000 sheep and 300 cattle and horses, all being grass-fed, with no artificial food. Arrangements have been made for completing the roading, and tho public may bo congratulated on having the opportunity of acquiring some of tho finest land in Now Zealand.
The land will bo open for selection at Napier on Wednesday, Juno 24. Iho Lands and Survey Office are preparing maps and illustrated pamphlets, which will be available at all the district offices in the Colony.
