PROPOSED ELECTORAL LEAGUE.
A meeting called by the Trades Council of the representatives of the various organisations in the city was held in the Exchange Buildings last week, for the purpose of hearing Mr Haselden with reference to the formation of an electoral league. Mr 11. C. Jones occupied tho chair. The Hon It. J. Seddon was present. After tho Premier, Mr Haselden and somu of the representatives had addressed the meeting, the following resolutions a ere adopted:— “ That the representatives of the organisations present be requested to relate to their bodies the proceedings to-night, and request them to consider the advisability of a public meeting being called for tho purpose of forming an organisation having for its objects the safeguarding of the rights of tho masses and the return to Parliament of three members who will thoroughly promote tho cause of the people and support tho present administration.”
“ That the organisations represented he requested to decide upon the questions submitted at an early date, and communicate the result to Mr Haselden, and appoint delegates to attend a meeting to be called for the purpose of deciding upon the date of a public meeting.” Tho meeting was adjourned till Thursday three weeks, and Mr Haselden is to call the next meeting.
