EGMONT WINTER MEETING.

The Egmont Racing Club attempted a two dayu' meeting for tho first time last week. Owing to tho heavy rain the attendance was affected on both days.

Messrs Neylon and Spriggingfl worked the machine, and put through £'1449 in tho two days ; while Mr Baird gave every satisfaction as starter.

Tho ball was set rolling with the Handicap Hurdles, two miles and a distance, which was a good race all through, Mr Baird sending the nags off to a good start. The following are the results :

Dante, Freeborn, Waituna, Nat and Raupo also started. The field raced at the first hurdle together, and then Canard got a slight lead. Rossall forged forward, however, and seemed for a while to be in the running, but the field came

The Artist, Waiuku, Marino, Westmere, Bloomsbury, Yoltigeur and Saluto also started. Man-o'-War had a hard raco home, beating Crimson Streak by about a length. Marino did not, appear to bo running up to his usual form. Time, 2min 34 1-osec. Dividend, £1 9s.

The Handicap Hack Flat Race, six furlongs, was the next, and a lively raco it was. Tho following is the result: —

Errand Boy, Australina, Silvor Sea, Secrecy, Waingona, Sweet Sleep, Light, Return, Off Chance, Muscatel, The Drone, Wild Vixen, lloadford, Klima, Alma, Calmarine, Siss Shot, Factory Lass and Blue Bonnet also started. Tho start was straggling, but tho field closed up and a grand race ensued, Kanaka winning by a head. Time, Imin 23sec. Dividend, il9

The Egmont Handicap Steeplechase came next on the tapis, and as far as money went it was tho moat important race of the meeting; distance, three miles. Mr E. Shove's ch g Booties, lOst 81b (E. Williams) 1 .Air J. Pood's b g Lord Vivian, lOsfc slb (Higgins) 2 Mr J. Green's ch 111 Narrate, lOst (J. Morris) 3 Kaitoa, Wariti and Sir Athol also started. The field got well away from a good start. Sir Athol fell at tho second fence, and Wariti began to drop behind. Coming into the second round Booties and Lord Vivian raced well together, while Narrate and Wariti fell at tho last jump before the homo run. Coming to tho last fence Booties responded gamely and was first over, and won easily by four lengths, with Lord Vivian and Narrate only behind him, tho others having all stopped. Time, 7min 32scc. Dividend, X'3 17s.

Then came the Stewards'Handicap, tho last race of the day, distance soveu furlongs. Mr E. Watson's ch g Dummy, 7st 31b (Gillie) 1 Mr M. Livingstone's b h Marino, Sst 21b (Dorrott) 2 Mr S. 11. Baker's The Artist, Gst 21b (Lind) 3

There was a good raco up the straight, and Dummy won by only two lengths. Time, lmin HOsec. Dividend, .£5 13s. Tho second day was not much better as far as tho weather went than tho first, and when tho riders catno in they wero hardly recognisable, tho courso was so bad. '
