Tho question of a water supply for Mastcrton was again discussed at tho meeting of tho Borough Council on Tuesday week. Amotion was tabled that a poll of the inhabitants be taken on a proposal to raise a loan of £1350 to assist the Upper Plain settlers in constructing headword ou tho Waingawa river. This was ruled out of order by the -Mayor. Eventually, notice, of motion was given that Mr Hogg lie asked to assist the Council in getting a Kill put through Parliament empowering the striking of a special water area for the purpose of a loan for a high pressure watersupply. The .Mayor has intimated his intention of moving that a poll betaken on the proposal to raise a loan for a wafer supply. The inhabitants are enthusiastic regarding the Town Hall proposal, and if is pro- ! able that the second poll will be carried. At tho amiu il meeting of the Mastorfon Operatic Society, Dr I locking was elected president and Mr A. von Ivciseubcrg conductor. It was derided to eoimiletieo the rehearsal of the opera "The Mikado."

A young man who hat been tramping the country for weeks in seaich of work, pulled up' here on Saturday night. Re was worn out with fatigue, and crippled with walking. Tho poor fellow was this morning convoyed to tho Hospital for medical treatment. A young man named Merson narrowly escaped fatal injuries on Tuesday. He was standing under a building which is in course of erection, when an iron block, which was being adjusted to tho top of building, fell and struck him on the back
of the head, inflicting a nasty scalp wound. His escape from death was miraculous. Edward Naylor, blacksmith, Pahiatua, has been adjudicated bankrupt.
