The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report tor the week ending Bth May, 1890 : VVooi,.—Under date 7th instant our London ofliee cables as follows : "Shi3<3 the close of last sales greasy washed and scoured merino, medium and interior, are id to Id per lb lower ; scoured merino super, line crossbred washed and scouivd, and medium greasy crossbred are id per lb lower ; washed merino super and line greasy crossbred are Id per 11; lower ; medium crossbred, washed and scoured, greasy merino lambs, superior, medium and inferior, are Id per lb lower ; srreasy crossbred lambs are .Id per lb higher ; scoured crossbred is par to .Id per lb lower; coarse crossbred, greasy, washed and scoured, are par to id per lb lower; slipe has declined |d per lb ; crossbred, market easier. During the week we brought forward a small catalogue of oddments, which was disposed of privately at satisfactory prices. There is now a very active enquiry for good, clean crutchings, for which we quote Id to lid per lb, according to condition. Sheepskins are coining forward freely, and continue to realise late rates. We quote: Prime full-woolled crossbreds, m to s|d ; medium to good, kl to l-;d ; inferior and broken, I'd to 3Jd per lb ; factory skins, 3s 9d to Is 3d ; butchers', 2s 3d to 2s Od ; modium, Is Gd to Is lOd; pelts, 5d to Is each. , RabbitskiNS.—Advices from South report a sli'dit improvement in values, best autumn being quoted at 9d to y.}d. Other descriptions remain unchanged. Hides are in short supply. We have no change in values to report. Quotations : Prime stout ox, well flayed, 3Jd ; medium, 3',d: light, 2 : ;d to 3d; green cowhides, 2;d ; calfskins, 3{-d per lb. Tallow.—The quantity coining forward continues limited, while the demand for local use is active. Prices remain firm at the level of those last quoted. Frozen Meat.—Latest London advices report the mutton market weak at for Canterbury 3.Jd and Wellington 2H per lb. Frozen lamb market weaker; prime New Zealand lambs are worth per carcase -lij per lb. ilEMi'.—Market unchanged. Little or no business passing. Quotations are nominally ,£0 Ids to .£lO per ton. Grain.—Wheat—Practically no bn.-inoss passing except in feed parcels, which are a shade easier since we last reported in consequence of supplies having come forward freely. The following London market cablegram has been received by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited : Frozen Meat Lamb market weak. Prime Now Zealand lambs arc worth per carcase 4id per lb. fallow—Market weak. New Zealand fine mutton tallow is worth 20s 3d per cwt. New Zealand good beef is worth 18s 3d per cwt. Messrs Lakry and Co., Limited, report for the past week as follows: Wheat.—A fair business has been passing during the week, but values, if anything, are a shade easier. We quoto-Whole fowl wheat, 3s 7d to 3s Sd ; broken, 3s 5d to 3s Gd ; prime milling, 3s 8d to 3s Od. Oats.— The market continues firm at prices showing an advance on previous quotations. Messrs Freeman It. Jackson and Co.'s Wanganui stock report (telegraphed last week to the New Zealand Mail) is as follows : We have to report on the special sale at Mr P. Bourke's farm at Whenuakura, the Waverley sale on Monday, and to-day's sale at Wanganui. Bidding at all sales was animated, and we succeeded in clearing the yards at Wanganui and also at Waverley, with the exception of the line of 2-toothowes. Cattle are in belter demand, and sheep maintain late rates, liound sheep sell readily, but others are difficult to quit. Pigs were in fair supply at Wanganui, and wore m better demand. The demand still continues. We have been approached so often about holding property sains that wo now intend to inaugurate a regular system of weekly property sales, and will hold our opening 'sale on Saturday, 10th May, and on every Saturday after that date ; lull particulars of the properties will be duly advertised. We have almost a full list lor the first sale. Those wishing to take advantage of these sales should send us in particulars of tho properties as early as possible. Messrs A. G. Taine and Co. report o their horse sale on Saturday :—Tho entry was a medium one, and of the poorest description we have seen iu the yard for a long time with a very few exceptions. Although we mode a good number of sales, they arc not worth quoting. There is asingular absence of (rood horses coming in just now, ami scarcely any draughts. Good harness horses with some weight in them would sell readily and well; so would good draughts. We hope to offer some good sorts next week. In the meantime quotations stand about as follow: —Heavy draughts, young and staunch, -C2lto £2B, and even more for clinkers ; harness hor-'cs for express and general spring cart work, .£l2 to £U> for best, £8 to £U) for medium.

Sydney. May 1. With the month just ended business in the import market closed dull, values remaining steady. Breadstuff's were quiet and unchanged : feed produce lines quiet. Maize declined Id. pending the arrival of large shipments of potatoes, and onion- were easier. The demand for all sound investments is very active, there being plenty of outside capital offering, the only hindrance to business being the firmness of holders. Government securities and banks are exceptionally linn. Only small parcels of stocks are available, but these change hands at good advances. Wheat oifes sparingly, and any lines forward are readily taken at lull rates. Potatoes, which weakened in the early part of the week in sympathy with Sydney, have now recovered, and are again firm, as also are onions. Oatsheaf freely taken for export.
