BANKRUPTCY.
There have been seven bankruptcies during the month which has ended, as against four for the corresponding month of last year. During the four months of tho present year there have been 31 bankruptcies, as against 23 in the corresponding period of 1595. Stephen Francois Willard, painter, has been adjudged a bankrupt. His liabilities are set down at £ll Os 3\d, and his assets, consisting of furniture, at ,£lO. The principal creditors are : Thomas Dickson's estate, £-1-2 Ills 2 1 ; Dr Parkes, £1 8s; Dr Anson, £'■> 10s. Another new bankrupt, Thomas Mitchell, labourer, estimates his liabilities at .£2ll bis, the debts being divided amongst six creditors, the largest being John Broughton, Levin, .£lO3 ; Mrs Mitchell, J2IOO. Drmnmoml Bros., sawniillcrs, Waikauac, have been adjudged bankrupts. Thomas Mitchell, labourer, was adjudicated bankrupt on Friday. Lewis Ornstein, draper, Wellington, was on Friday adjudicated bankrupt.
Joseph Aston, carpenter, in has statement seta down his indebtedness to unsecured creditors at i.\S5 7s (3d, and to secured creditors at X'Boo, tho estimated value of the security being JJSSO. The assets are estimated at £:> 1 Os lid, including surplus from securities, leaving a deficiency of .£3l lis 7d. The principal unsecured creditors are:-Empire Loan Company, £2O ; Tc Aro Loan Company, £2O ; Metson Brothers, £H • T. K. Macdonaldand Co., £7 10s ; city rates, £1 Bis lOd. The secured creditors are :—Wellington Trust and Loan Company, £'->'i'K secured by a first mortgage over two houses in College e-reen, valued at ,£BSO ; C. Gardiner and Co., J-7-i 13a 3d, and J. Alexander and Co., JEIIJ -Is, both secured by a second mortgage over the above property ; Wilson and Chapman, XiU; Stewart and Co., £2\) lis Sd; Hitching*, =£ls 0s Od; Ualley aud Id wing, £\2; McCarrison and Son, JCIO 5s KM; llarcourt and Co., £,S ; Sea gar, £7 10s ; G. Mudge, £» KM.
