Captain White, who is a witness in the Jameson trial in London, said, in an interview, that the Matabclc uprising was caused by the knowledge of the natives that Jameson’s officers were absent in England, and that the Matabele country wa3 without its usual patrols. He believed that tho rising is unimportant, except for the massacre of Scotch settlers, and thinks that it can bo easily crushed by a force on the spot. Ho saw plenty of Maxims and fieldguns available when at Buluwayo, and is confident that the local forces can crush tho blacks if firm measures aro taken at once.
