HUNTING.

UNITED HUNT CLUB. The annual general meeting of the United Hunt Club was bold at tho Royal Oak Hotel last Monday, Mr D. G. A. Cooper (deputy master) in the chair. The following new members were elected namely, Messrs E. lincholz, C. Buddie, 11. Reid, P. E. Baldwin, C. R. .Morris. Tho committee, in presenting their report and balance-sheet;, pointed out that although the latter shows a considerable decrease in the receipts of the Club for the past season, on the other hand it discloses a very large reduction in tho expenditure as compared with any previous year. 'The total expenditure incurred during 1895 was £IG3 lbs lid, while that for 1894 (which was tho next lowest) was £252 3s Gd. Seeing that the members were specially well catered for in tho way of hunting, the hounds being at their command at all times, and that more runs were held during the past than dining any previous season, the committee considers that the expenses were kept well within bounds, and that the Club is to be congratulated on the large reduction made in expenditure. The falling oil" in the receipts is to be accounted lor in several ways, the most important of which is the decrease in the net proceeds from the race meeting held in 1895, which wero £sl 19s lOd, compared with the balance from the meeting held in 1894, which was £ll2 8s lOd, or a difference of £G(J 9s; and to tho fact of a number of members having resigned in consequence of their departure from Wellington. The subscriptions of 12 members have been lost to the Club through this cause alone, amounting to some £3l). Another reason is that a good many members have not yet paid their subscriptions for last season, amounting to £35 14s.

Seeing that the affairs of tho Club can be carried on at such a minimum of cost, tho total expenditure required being only £lO3 per annum, tho committee considers that in the future, providing a few of the members will take a more lively interest therein than heretofore, there should be no doubt as to hunting being a permanency in Wellington. The Club has lost, amongst others, during tho last season, by removal from Wellington, one of its most enthusiastic supporters in Air Frank Harley (lion treasurer), whose energy, both in and out of the field, they can ill afford to lose.

The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The meeting then adjourned for a fortnight, when the season’s fixtures will bo arranged, and the election of officers proceeded with.

Uluj opening meet will take place at Miramar on Saturday next.
