There is a considerable amount of passenger traffic at the Carterton Station, ami a great deal ot discomfort is experienced iu cold and wet weather owing to the exposed state of tho platform. Tho cost of erecting a verandah would bo very trilling. Many an one can date a lasting cold from having had to stand on that exposed station in the wot ami mud while awaiting tho arrival of tho train. Tho Wairarapa line is the best paying section in the Colony, and the department are warranted in going to the_ expense of providing better accommodation at this station. „ „ Tho newly-appointed AA esleyan Circuit minister, tin; Rev S. be accorded a public welcome tit Carterton on Thursday. , „ ~ . I don’t know whether it is owing to tho fact of this being Leap Year, but certain it is that marriages this year are in excess considerably of former years so far. Last week the marriage of Mr J. 11. Wakelin and Miss Kate Armstrong was celebrated in St. Mark’s Church, and as they both belonged to tho choir they were accorded a full choral service. Ihe church was nearly filled by ladies. Ihe bride looked very pretty in lavender cashmere, with white feather hat, aud carried a lovely bouquet-. Miss Bella Armstrong, sister of the bride, and Miss Katie Wakelin, sister of tho bridgroom, were the bridesmaids, and were dressed in blue cashmere, trimmed with butter colour ribbon and white hats. Mr W. Wakelin, the brother, acted as best man, aud the bride was given away by her father, Mi Philip J. Armstrong. Both families are old settlers and widely connected in tho district. After the registry was signed, tho Rev W. Balloehey, on behalf of the vestry, choir and .Sunday school teachers, presented the young couple with a service of plate. Afternoon tea was served at tho residence of the bride’s parents.
