BOARD OF CONCILIATION.

At a meeting of the Board of Conciliation for the Wellington district, held on Friday in the Supreme Court Buildings, for the purpose of electing a chairman, Mr John Young (who was elected chairman pro tan.) stated that ho was in receipt of a letter from Messrs Stout, Mondy, Sim and Findlay, acting for Mr 11. Warner, warning the Board against electing a chairman, on the ground that action to upset the election of Mr 11. C. Jones as a member of the Board was being taken. Mr Young said that personally he was inclined to ignore what bo characterised as a bombastic letter, but lie thought they might aljourn for a week, as neither the Board nor the public would suffer harm or inconvenience thereby. Tho other members of the Board had also received similar letters. After a short discussion, it was decided to adjourn for a week. Messrs J. Young and C. ilaslem (employers’ representatives) and D. P. Fisher and 11. C. Jones (representatives of tho employees) were the members present. Action is being taken in the Supreme Court by Dr Findlay, acting on behalf of Mr 11. Warner, one of the candidates for the Board, who contends that Mr 11. C. Jones was wrongfully elected. The alleged cause of action, as set out in a writ issued on Friday, is that Mr A. 11. Ilindmarsh was instructed by tho Seamen’s Union to vote for Mr 'Warner, but voted for Mr Jones, who received a total of nine votes, Mr Warner only obtaining 8. Mr Warner requests that a writ of mandamus he issued calling upon Mr W. A. Hawkins, Clerk of Awards, to record the vote of the Seamen’s Union in favour of himself, and to declare him elected a member of the Board, and to declare the election of Mr Jones null and void.
