C.J.C. SUMMER MEETING.

Mr J. E. Henry was up to time on Saturday with his adjustments for the above meeting. In the Hornby Welter, one mile and a quarter, Prime Warden, list, holds pride of place, but as he is evidently not the Prime Warden of two seasons back, he has quite sufficient to stop him. Marino, lOst 81b, is at present suffering a recovery, and may not be quite well by Saturday next. Silver Spec, 9st 131 b, did not show ,up well in Wellington, and the same may be said of Loveshot. Aldershot, 9st 101 b, is the pick of the Handicap, and if he starts in this race in. preference to the Midsummer Handicap I shall expect him to very nearly win. Magazine, 9st olb, is well treated, and only requires to be well to have a chance. Of Maxinrusand Salvo at 9st I prefer the former. Frenchy, Bst 61b, must have a chance, but for Medicus, Bst 41b ; Bisley and Cannonshot, Bst 31b ; and Rangefinder, Sst, Ido not care. I expect the winner to come from Mount Royal, Magazine, and Frenchy. In the Midsummer Handicap, one mile and a half, Saracen, 9st lib, has the post of honour, and on his Wellington running cannot complain. Skirmisher, Lady Zetland and Barmby are on the same mark, Bst 121 b. I prefer the former. Marino and Artilleur, Bst 21b, I do not like. Culverin, 7st 111 b, will run a good mare. Quiltiri, 7st 91b, has a chance on his best form ; and Aldershot, if reserved for this event, with only 7st 61b to carry, will be dangerous. Maximus, 7st 31b, has never yet won in decent company, but has the reputation of being a fair colt. Bellicent, 7st, comes from a good stable and deserves respect. Red and Black, 6st 91b, has never yet got the distance, and at the weights I prefer Saracen, Skirmisher and Aldershot. In the Craven Plate, of seven furlongs, Mr Henry considers Barmby a lib better horse than Saracen over the distance, but in his present form the latter will take a power of beating, even with 9st 61b in the saddle. Marino, Bst 81b, has quite as much as he is entitled to, and Culverin, Sst lib, is not too well treated. Silver Spec and Quiltu'i, at 7st 131 b, have nothing to complain of, and Golden Fleece and Mount Royal, with 7st 101 b, are a dangerous pair. Loveshot, 7st 91b, is evidently out of form ; but New Forest, with 7st 81b, only requires to be well to win, and I consider the handicapper has let this horse off leniently. Ambush, 7st -Alb, is about in her place ; and of Salvo and Red and Black, at 7st 2lb, the latter, who has a great private reputation, has a good chance to distinguish himself. Medicus and Bisley, 6st 101 b, are both fast over this distance. Lady Lear and Cannonshot, even at 6st 91b, do not look worth backing ; and Rangefinder, 6st 71b, will not find many friends. To try and pick it without the acceptances, I should take Golden Fleece, New Forest, and Red and Black.

A well-known contractor, and a resident of Fitzherbert road, won =£soo over Brooklet's win in the Wellington Cup. He bad (says the Standard) £51)0 to £ls laid by a bookmaker. Several other equally well-known residents of Palmorston have won from £IOO to £SO from the book's by the victory of Mr Douglas' mare. Mr J. Mayo, Club Hotel, Marten, had £2OO to £3 on Brooklet with a Wellington bookmaker (says the Advocate), and having hedged £SO, won £l5O. At the last meeting of the stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club (writes our Featherston correspondent), the case of J. Cooper, who was disqualified for two years in March last for breaking a lock on the Moroa course, was again brought up by a petition signed by a large number of the principal residents of Grey town praying for the removal of the disqualification, on the ground that Cooper is deprived of his means of livelihood, and is almost starving. The stewards were unanimous that nothing should be done until a year of the disqualification has elapsed-. We are informed that the amount collected for the benefit of J. Ayres, jockey, injured at the meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club, is £9 16s, including two guineas voted by the Club. . Pending the result of an action as to the ownership of Brooklet, winner of the Wellington Cup, Mr H. M. Lyon, the secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, ips received notice to retain the prize money yon by the inure.
