APPROPRIATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS. In view of the departure of the Minister of Lands for the South yesterday, a meeting of Cabinet was held on Saturday, when the following' appropriations for expenditure on public works were passed : £ Midland Railway, Bel grove section ... 2000 Opuaka bridge ... ... ... ... 700 Rotorua-Te Teko road ... ... ... 2000 Additional siding accommodation at at Forsyth 230 Alfredton - Weber road '(Hawke's Bay) 2500 Roads Terrace End special settlement ... ... ... ... ... 500 Porirua Asylum (foundation for new wing) 700 Hawera new Courthouse (in place of one burnt down) ... ... ... 33S Roads Campbelltown Hundred and Campbelltown (Southland) ... ... 600 Rangitikei bridge ... ... ... ... 500 Turakina Valley road ... ... ... 500 Ngunguru-Whangarei track ... ... 770 Taumatamahoe road (Taranaki) ... 500 Road through Urewera Country ... 1600 Rotorua-Galatea road ... ... ... 2000 Tauranga-Napier road ... ... ... 500 It has also been decided to erect a house for the Inspector of Stock at Naseby (Otago). Application was made for a grant of £250 to the Avon Refuge (Christchurch), which last year received a Government grant of £IOO. It was resolved to grant .£SO each to the Avon Refuge and to Herrick's Home, but these are not to be regarded aa precedents for further grants.
