THE HOSPITAL.
DR EWART WITHDRAWS HIS RESIGNATION. At the meeting of the Hospital Trustees or the 21st, a letter was read from Dr Ewart withdrawing his resignation as Medical Superintendent of the Hospital. He also thanked the Trustees for the assistance they had rendered him and assured them that he would put forth his utmr st endeavours to further the interest and efficiency of the Hospital. Mr L. L. Harris said that it was a matter of congratulation for the Trustees that Dr Ewart had re-considered his resignation, and he hoped that he would long occupy the position that he had so worthily filled for many years past. The poor of the city should also congratulate themselves as they would continue to have the benefit of his valuable experience. The Rev H. Van Staveren also spoke of the many good qualities of Dr Ewart. The Trustees passed a resolution expressing their satisfaction at Dr JEwart's withdrawal of his resignation. The Trustees' offer to Dr Ewart was an increase of salary from £oso to ,£7OO, and the use of a house specially built for him at a cost of £BOO. Messrs Penty andEorde's design for the house was accepted.
