GENERAL.
St. John's, January 20. A sealing vessel was wrecked at Nova Scotia, and the crew took to the boats. Four daj's they were buffeting with the seas. Fifteen of the crew died. Calcutta, January 20. The Ameer of Afghanistan has subdued the Kafiristan rising. Calcutta, January 23. The Indian Council proposes to tax all cottons 3.V per cent., making exemptions in regard to English and Indian yarns.
