RUAHINE RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

Woodville, January 15. Onl_y thirty entries have been received for the second annual meeting of the Ruahine Rifle Association, held to-day, thus necessitating tfio cutting down of the prize-list 50per cent. The Petone and Marton Rifle Clubs have sent teams. Owing to illness, Major Lomax could not attend, the meeting, and Lieut. Ivirk and Mr F. W. Williams have charge of the range. The day was fine, although a high wind was blowing. Tho Waipukurau Match, 10 shots, 360yds, was won by Bid will (Fcatb.e',g eori), 41 ; Williams (Napier), second, with 39 ; Nelson (Woodville), third, with 39; Morrison (Marton), Benton (Feutherston), Grey (Marton), 38 each. Holland and Ingpen were counted out. The Danevirke match had not concluded when the telegraph office closed. WoUvUViLLE, January 16. At the Ruahine Rifie Association’s Meeting, the Danevirke Match (200, 500 and 600 yards, seven shots) resulted:— Benton (Featherstori), B 3 ; McCardle (Pahiatua), 80 : De ' Pelichet (Waipukurau), 79; Hollrurk (Petone), 79; Williams (Napier), 79 ; Kirlc (Petone), 79.; Wilkie (Uppor Hutt), 78; Atkinson (Hawera), 78. The lowness of the scoring is owing to the high wind blowing, nine feet having to be allowed at 600 yards. Jn the Pahiatua Match (500 and 600 yards, seven shots): the wind burst up two targets' causing a delay of an hour. In the Woodville Match (300, 500 and 600 yards, seven shots), Joseph Chicken put on the possible at 300 yards, and besides receiving the club’s special prize, gets a guinea presented by L. De Pelichet. .As this performance is a record for the Colony, the competitors have subscribed a sum of money to present Chicken with a trophy. Atkinson (Hawera) put on another possible at 500yds, and finished with the splendid score of S 9 ; Chicken, second with S 3 ; Seymour, third with 80: McCardle, fourth,77.

The Feilding Match, 10 shots at 700 yards, was won by John Grant with 31, F. Ingpen being next with 30, Seymour and Williams 29, Horne 2S. Twenty degrees had to be allowed for wind.

The Last Try Match, 10 shots at 500 yards, was won by W. H. Nelson, with 42 ; H. P. Smith, 41 : D._ Thurston and W. Gray, 40 ; J. \ile, 3S; Nat Willoughby being counted out.
