THE SWIMMING CARNIVAL. Sydney, January IG. At the Swimming Carnival the principal results were as follow : 220yds Amateur Championship of Australasia. —Jack 1-lelling.s (New South Wales), 1 ; W. J. Gormley (New South Wales), 2 ; Z. Leo (New South Wales), 3. It was a splen-didly-contested race, with an exciting finish, liellings winning by a few inchos. Time, 2min 52sec. Hoey and Bailey, New Zealanders, finished third in their respective heats.

Plunging Championship.— Peate (East Sydney), 66ft IOA-in, 1 ; Stapleton, 63ft, 2 ; Harvey, 60fb, 3. Peate’s performance beats the world’s record, previously held by Taylor, England, with 66ft 7in.

On the Hawkesbury River the following was the result of the Mile Amateur Championship of Australasia. —Percy Cavill (New South Wales), 1 ; Leo (New South Wales), 2 ; Hoey (Nov/ Zealand), 3. It was a fine race throughout, and the placed men were all close together at the finish. Time, 28min Sseo. Sydney, January 17. The details of the Mile Swimming Championship show that after passing the halfmile Gormley was almost on terms with Cavill, but the excursion steamers forced them out of their course. Cavill soon rectified his deviation, but Gormley gave up. Leo beat Hoey by 50 yards. Stratton, of Christchurch, also started. The time for- the first half-mile was 14min 2sec. In the Inter-club Handicap, Bailey came second in his heat.

Two heats of the 100yds race for the president’s cup, Wellington Swimming Club, were contested last week in Te Aro Baths. The results were : —First heat—W. Horne, 1 ; H. H. Lucre, 2; A. J. Abbott, 3. Time, lmin 31see. Second heat—A. H. Pringle, 1 ; H. Davies, 2 ; F. J. Pullen, 3. Time, lmin 37sec. The final heat takes place this evening s,t 5.30.
