SIR GEORGE GREY.

The following- letter has been forwarded to the Speaker of the House of Representatives by Sir George Grey : 7, Park place, St. James’. London, 13th November, 189.3. Sir, — I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 11th September last, transmitting a i*esolution passed by the House of Representatives of New Zealand, on my retirement from my seat in Parliament as member for the city of Auckland. It is impossible for me to express in adequate language my feelings upon receiving such a record of life-long services without feeling deeply moved. The results named as having been obtained by my services are a record of what has been achieved by men and officers serving the British Empire for long periods of time in a manner which reflects the highest honour upon them. I believe that history will record the vast difficulties which have been overcome by those who, in civil or military capacity, met them as they arose. It is with great pain that I now separate myself from those to whom I owe so much. Age and infirmity compel me to do so, but I return most grateful thanks to the Parliament of New Zealand for the invaluable assistance which it has extended to me through so many years, and for the parting compliment which it has paid to me. I have the honour to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, G. Grey. To the Hon the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wellington, New Zealand.
