THE LIVE CATTLE TRADE.
London, April 19. The bullocks by the Celtio King and Port Chalmers will be sold alive at Deptford on Monday. London, April 22. Nine of the Nairnshire's cattle died, but the rest have arrived in splendid condition. The vessel had a rough passage round Cape Horn. Sydney, April 21. At the request of the Government the Agent-General has obtained a report from Houlder Bros., the well-known shippers who deal largely in the live cattle trade with America, with a view of developing Australian trade in that direction. After giving details, the report says that Houlder Bros, are of opinion that the boats now employed in the American trade are not suitable for conveying cattle from Australia, and that the only way by which it is possible to bring cattle at present from the Antipodes is on the decks of the steamers regularly engaged in the Australian trade. They consider, however, if sufficient cattle offer, special boats should be built to bring 1000 head or over at a cost of .£7 per head.
