Slatin Bey, in escaping from Omdurman, travelled 120 miles in 20 hours, pursued by 300 cavalry. t, Cairo, March 22. Slatin Bey, who escaped from Omdurman, has been created a Pasha. He has impressed upon, the Khedive that a strong force of men and wellarranged plans are absolutely necessary to •nsure success in the military operations against the Mahdi. Paris, March 24. M. Deloncle, the well-known French statesman, who is on a visit to Cairo, asserts that that city is certain to become a centre of hostility to the British. The disturbed condition of the country is encouraging to France, and gives hope of ultimately seeing a French garrison on the Nile. London, March 24. The Times says a sensation may be expected in Egypt at any moment. Lord Kimberley, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in reply to a request of the Aborigines Protection Society for a strict enquiry into the operations ,on, Brass River, a tributary of the "Niger, said personally he did hot regret the punishment inflicted on the natives, who had beheaded an English clerk and pillaged the town of Akassa. He refused to enquire into the general management of the Royal Niger Company.
