A well-attended public meeting has been held in Eltham to take steps to further the pig-raising industry. Farmers were present from many parts of the district. The Okiawa settlers guaranteed a supply of 250 pigs this season and 500 for the two following seasons. After some' discussion it was decided to form a committee to arrange for the inauguration of a bacon-curing establishment for the district. The Kaponga settlers guarantee 100 pigs this season and 300 next year. Local settlers 180 this year and about 600 next season. A meeting of the committee of the Horticultural Society was held on Friday, Mr L. G. Eeid in the chair. It was decided to hold the combined autumn a!id chrysanthemum show on the 24th and 25th April.
