POLO.
At the polo tournament last week, Manawatu beat the Christchurch first team by 3 to 2. Ashburton also beat the Christchurch second team. CiiKiSTCHtrBCH, March 21. The polo tournament was continued today. • The weather was overcast and bitterly cold, and the attendance not large. The matches were Manawatu v. Rangitikei No. 1 and Ashburton v. Rangitikei No. 2. Manawatu beat Rangitikei by three goals to two, after an interesting game. Baker scored for Manawatu, and A. H. Bill for the opposing team. In the other match Rangitikei made four goals against Ashburton's one. Christchurch, March 22. The Savile Cup Tournament was concluded to-day in miserable weather, and when the final round of the contest was finished the ground was a perfect quagmire, and it was deemed inadvisable to play the match arranged between Auckland and Warrengate. As anticipated, Manawatu beat Rangitikei (No. 2) very easily, and thus won the tournament. . At the conclusion of the game, Mr G.A. M. Buckley, vice-president of the Association, presented the Cup to Mr A. S. Baker, captain of the winning team.
The teams were: Manawatu —A. Williams, A. S. Baker, F. P. Snow, W. B. Lloyd, Eangitikei No. 2 —G-. A. Wilson, E. Keiller, C. Dairymple, W. A. Keiller. In the first speU Baker, Lloyd and Snow scored for Manawatu —the former twice—and in the second spell Snow scored twice, and Baker further increased the total. S. Keiller in the third spell scored Eangitikei's only goal. Their opponents scored three more goals, two by the agency of Lloyd and one by Baker, and the game ended in a victory for Manawatu by 10 goals to 1. At a meeting of the Polo Association it. was resolved that the tournament next year should be held at Palmerston North,, provided the ground offered met with the approval of the Managing Committee. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year: —Vice-president, Mr GJ-. A. M. Buckley; hon secretary and treasurer, Mr A. E. Gf. Rhodes; Managing Committee, Messrs E. D. O'Eorke, E. S. Abraham, J. Gf. Wilson, E. Heaton Ehpdes and A. E. Gr. Rhodes. , Christchurch, March 24. The Christchurch Polo Club held their annual sports at Eiccarton racecourse yesterday. The weather was miserable, but the attendance was fairly large. The Polo Cup, four furlongs, was won by S. Williamson's Marquis, and the Hurdle Eace, four furlongs, by W. Chapman's Frib. C.hristchtjrch, March 25. The polo match Auckland v. Warrengate, I>ostponed from Friday, was played to-day, Auckland winning by four goals to two. j
