The man on the chestnut: " Why don't you hunt oftener ?" The man on the grey: " I should like to but-my 'screw isn't up to it." The man on the chestnut: "Oh, your ' screw' is all right—a bit thin, but seems to have bone —he'd be up to it all right." (But he meant his salary.)
" I must have backed the -wrong horse ■" said the amateur rider, as he landed on the top of his head in the road.
" Now, my poor friend," quoth the parson to the bookmaker, " if you have anything on your mind, anything very much at heart, you know, any last wish jou would like to express or record, pray speak out." The expiring bookmaker heaved a sigh and then ejaculated:.'.'Ain't got no last wish, except that I'd give a pony to get well."
